We understand that Mrs. Case will take over the County Treasurers office for the balance of the unexpired term. Floyd Chelf has been hired as engineer. As yet they haven’t employed a miller, but they are in correspondence with two or three good men from whom they hope to employ one soon.

The junior class of Wichita County Community High School has the stage all set for the annual junior play for tomorrow night. The title, “O, Promise Me,” promises a full evening’s entertainment, packed with thrills and fun from the very first curtain to the close of the show.

Miss Yvonne Winkler, director of the junior play, and sponsors Miss Catherine Campbell and Jay Holman, all of the faculty at the local high school, have been working long hours with members of the cast, in perfecting the presentation for the public. A packed house will no doubt reward the class and sponsors for their efforts.

The three-act comedy begins at 8 o’clock sharp. Tell all your friends and plan to be there.

An admission of 10¢ for children, 15¢ for students and 25¢ for adults will be charged.

Fair weather on election day, Tuesday, November 7, brought out over 962 voters in Wichita County, for the best “off-year” turnout in recent years.

At the last presidential election only 1074 votes were cast for the highest office in the land.

Aurel McDermott, D., wife of Sheriff Tudor McDermott, may be the only woman elected Sheriff in Kansas, as far as is known for the 1950—she received 610 votes to 345 for A.E. Freeland, R.

Sheriff Tudor McDermott is serving the last of two consecutive terms and was ineligible to run for a third consecutive term. Aurel McDermott’s election is one of the fires for a woman sheriff in a western Kansas county and the first for Wichita County.

Mrs. Walter Breitkreutz was given a pennant which reads 100,000. This was recently presented to her by W. W. Templer, superintendent of USD 467. As of this writing the current mileage on Winona’s bus was 102,450. All of us hope the excellent work continues. The pennant is displayed on the antenna of “No. 8”.

There was a bountiful display of talent at the local Arts and Crafts Fair Saturday, sponsored by the Omiyage Club.

Art was available in a variety of media. Oil paintings covered two and a half walls of the main room in the Community Building.

Tables carried the majority of the wares. There were hand-carved wooden toys, wheat weaving, pottery and jewelry.

There were also tables with color photography, tie dyeing and glass etching.

In conjunction with the fair, photographs were taken of children with Santa Claus to raise money for the Eta Tu Sorority.

The annual merchants Holiday Open House will be Friday, November 16 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Chamber of Commerce president, Everett Green reported that the city Christmas lights will be tuned on a 6:30 p.m. and that a community caroling event is planned instead of the children’s choir as in the past. This gives everyone a chance to get in the holiday spirit. The location of the caroling will be on the empty lot just south of Mel’s Foodliner. Warm cheer will be served to all attending.
