Saturday, March 12, Berning Auction held their annual Farm Equipment consignment auction at the Wichita County Fairgrounds on the east side of town. Mother Nature decided to remind attendees that it was not yet spring, forcing them to traipse around grounds that were a swampy mess from melting snow.

A Journey of Agricultural Inspiration: From Small Town to National Ambassadorship

In late August, I eagerly applied to be an Agriculture Ambassador for the American Agriculture Movement. About a week later, the exciting news arrived through a call from my ag teacher, Hallie Means, informing me that I had been chosen as one of two National Ag Youth Ambassadors. This led to an unforgettable experience in September at the Farm Aid Festival in Indianapolis, where I immersed myself in forums, farm tours, and legendary concerts featuring artists like Willie Nelson and Neil Young, among others. Coming from a small town in Western Kansas, this adventure was both intriguing and eye-opening, especially as it was my first time in Indianapolis and only my second time flying.

Boys State of Kansas Offering College Credit, Scholarships for Attendees

April 15, 2024—The American Legion Boys State of Kansas has announced a partner ship with Kansas State University to offer attendees of the leadership program three hours of college credit at a significant discount. This year’s ALBSK will be held Sunday, June 2, through Saturday, June 8, on KSU’s campus in Manhattan. This will be the program’s 32nd consecutive session at KSU and 86th overall.

Power out? Prepping, storing food can be tricky

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State University food scientist Karen Blakeslee says preparing and storing food during a power outage can be “tricky.” “Without a steady power source (such as a generator), food can be temperature-abused, which increases the risk for foodborne illness,” said Blakeslee, who also is coordinator of K-State’s Rapid Response Center for Food Science.
