It was 2001—our first Independence Day as a married couple after we moved to Ohio. We bought a huge box of fireworks at Meijer, anxiously awaiting the 4th of July. At some point, on the news— probably sandwiched between patriotic recipes and grilling tips—was this thing that caught our attention.

Lost & Found

We’ve done it. Again. We found something lost. It happens a lot around here and it always feels like such a huge accomplishment, despite the time wasted looking for said lost thing. The longest running lost thing here is my set of keys to our van, missing since County Fair 2021.

Letter to the Editor:

I am addressing members of the community, what I am requesting is, “Back up for a fallen officer.” My father was Chief of Police for Leoti; his name, Carl A. Simons. He was murdered in the line of duty May 25, 1976.

First off, let me just say, it’s been such a pleasant June. I walked through the yard towards the park the other day and caught a glimpse of a clump of mushrooms. MUSHROOMS! Simple pleasures. I focused on those things for longer than I probably should have.

With Fathers’ Day just around the corner, my thoughts are drawn to the significance of that particular day. We celebrate fathers, rightly so, for their unique and essential contribution to our families.
