In this fallen and broken world do you hunger, as I do, for a kingdom where sickness, hatred, harshness, evil, and death are overcome by healing, love, gentleness, goodness, and life? Jesus of Nazareth ushered such a needed kingdom two thousand years ago and paid a huge price for us to live in it.

Recently, I have started working remotely in a phone center. My phone center consists of comforts of home and, interestingly enough, callers can tell I’m not actually in a phone center with dozens of others.

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor: Who do you trust? I’m not thinking of political leaders. I’m referring to people. Whether they go to church is as irrelevant as their political party. What matters is whether they put their beliefs above evidence. Do they put Tribe above Truth?

loom Starstruck

The power outage Tuesday night did two things around here. Oneit delayed bedtime. Two- it brought the family together. Suddenly, everyone wanted to be close, snuggled under arm. It’s funny how not having a nightlight strikes fear in the under-teen category. Yet, who am I kidding?

Freedom

It was 2001—our first Independence Day as a married couple after we moved to Ohio. We bought a huge box of fireworks at Meijer, anxiously awaiting the 4th of July. At some point, on the news— probably sandwiched between patriotic recipes and grilling tips—was this thing that caught our attention.
