First Snowfall of 2026

The first snowfall of 2026 blustered its way through our region on Friday, January 9. While the meteorologists on TV were predicting one to three inches, reports in our county ranged from three to seven inches, with the heavier amounts coming from the southern parts of the county.
She’s a tough lady to get in a photo. She’s just short of 14 feet long. The last module, the C/Z folder, was installed Monday, the 13th. We appreciate all the positive feedback we’ve gotten from you all!

Pictured at right is our new production press, the Xerox Versant 280. She’s a little bit intimidating, but so far she’s been on her best behavior.This is our second issue to be printed by this pretty lady and we’re looking forward to putting her through her paces with other jobs as well.

Smoky Valley Ranch provides exportable conservation model for Kansas cattle ranchers

LOGAN COUNTY — Smoky Valley Ranch in western Kansas, about 40 minutes south of Colby, experienced one of the driest years on record in 2022.The almost 20,000acre cattle and bison ranch recorded just six and a half inches of rain, barely half of the yearly averages recorded during the Dust Bowl era.
