JoAnn Jesko

JoAnn Jesko, 90, a longtime resident of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2020, in Canyon, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, August 13, 2020, at St. Anthony’s Church at 10:00 AM, with Father Tony Neusch and Father John Valdez, burial to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will be Wednesday 2:00 – 6:00 PM and rosary to begin at 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Due to COVID-19 virus mandates everyone attending mass will have to wear a mask provided by you, and there will be no public restroom or cry room available at the church.

JoAnn was born on April 4, 1930, in Marienthal, Kansas, to Anthony and Hilda (Simons) Berning. JoAnn has been a resident of Hereford since 1951. She married Johnny Jesko on June 9, 1952, in Marienthal, Kansas. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Church; she sang in the Choir, prepared the linens, was a Eucharistic Minister, and member of the Christian Mothers. JoAnn was a proud homemaker and gardener; she cultivated in her garden: fruits, vegetables, and flowers. She also canned many fruits and vegetables that came out of her garden each year. She was famous for her cinnamon rolls and chocolate chip cookies. She enjoyed quilting and needle point. JoAnn loved her family and her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish memories of her are her children: David Jesko and wife Glenda of Hereford, TX, Roger Jesko of Hereford, TX, Joyce Smith and husband Berry of Amarillo, Texas, Dwight Jesko and wife Patricia of Hereford, TX, Gerald Jesko and wife Wanda of Hereford, TX, Mary Ankeney and husband Scott of Canyon, TX, Daniel Jesko and wife Krynson of Hereford, TX, Brian Jesko and wife Sarah of West, TX; 22 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister Virginia Knobbe and husband Arden of Marienthal, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Johnny; brothers: Eugene, Johnny, Robert, and Edmund Berning, and sister Mary Louise Simon.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made to St. Anthony’s Church, 115 N. 25 Mile Ave, Hereford, TX, 79045.
