Bonnie Joan (Gribben) Greenwood, 87, of Overbrook, KS, passed away February 16, 2022, at Presbyterian Manor, Topeka, KS. Bonnie was born on October 31, 1934, on the Gribben family farm in rural Leoti, KS, the daughter of Arthur Louis Gribben, Sr. and Genevieve Eulala (Manning) Gribben. Bonnie grew up in the Sunnyside community of rural Wichita County, KS, and graduated from Wichita County High School in Leoti, KS, with the class of 1952. Bonnie then went on to attend Mary Mount College in Salina, KS.
While attending college, Bonnie met Floyd Greenwood while working in a Salina department store. On October 11, 1954, Bonnie was united in marriage to Floyd Greenwood at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Marienthal, KS. Bonnie and Floyd celebrated sixty-three years of marriage until the death of Floyd in March of 2018.
After their marriage, Bonnie and Floyd moved to several communities, from Salina to Dallas, TX, to Norton, KS, primarily for Floyd’s career as a funeral director. In 1967, the Greenwoods moved to Waverly, KS, where they worked for Jones Funeral home until March 5, 1971, when they purchased the Greenwood Funeral Home in Overbrook, KS. Bonnie became a Funeral Director’s Assistant and, with Floyd, they ran the Greenwood Funeral Home in Overbrook until their retirement in 2010. During those years, they also assisted Lamb-Roberts Funeral Homes in Ottawa, KS, and Baldwin City, KS.
Bonnie was a former member of the E.H.U. of Overbrook. While Bonnie was not a member of many groups of Overbrook, she was a fixture in the community all the years she lived there.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Greenwood; her parents, Arthur Gribben, Sr. and Genevieve Gribben; son, Steven Greenwood; brother, Arthur Louis (Artie) Gribben, Jr.; and a sister, Patricia Ann Palen.
Bonnie is survived by two daughters, Janet Arnold and her husband, Rocky, Topeka, KS, Jo Ann Westra and her husband, Geoffrey, Prairie Village, KS; three granddaughters, Jessica Sisco Peterson and her husband, Stephen, Denver, CO, Evan Arnold, Kansas City, MO, Jenna Westra, Columbia, MO; and a greatgrandson Conrad.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at United Methodist Church, Overbrook, KS. The family will greet friends for a visitation prior to service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Inurnment will be at Overbrook Cemetery, Overbrook, KS.
