Larry L. Yost, 63, passed away on March 9, 2022, at the Buffet Cancer Center, Omaha, NE. Larry was born in Moundridge, KS, on May 26, 1958, to Lester and Molly Yost.
He was united in marriage to Joanne Koehn April 16, 1978, in Scott City, Kansas. He began married life in Macon, Mississippi, farming soybeans and trucking. After 7 years (1984) he moved his family to the Marienthal, Kansas, area where he trucked, farmed, and ranched beef and buffalo. Many adventures and lasting friendships were made through the years and through the states that he custom harvested. In 2001 he relocated to the beautiful Colorado Springs, CO, area where the family worked together landscaping. In 2004 Larry received a golden opportunity to work with Team Excavating in Wrens, Georgia, as a shop boss, company pilot, and PR for new business development. Larry loved his careers and the people he worked with. In 2008 he spent 6 months with the family in Fairfield, Texas, expanding Team Excavating. Later in 2008, Karaturi Global, Ltd. invited Larry to manage the development of a farming operation near the city of Gambela in the nation of Ethiopia. After one week there, Larry felt his job was non-suitable with his family. He then spent 6 months in Meeker, Colorado, running his truck in the oil field. In the spring of 2009, Larry had an opportunity in Sutherland, Nebraska, to provide for his family custom spraying. While spraying, as many of his agricultural years, were certified organic, Larry saw the opportunity to develop a compost business where he could work with family and mentor people.
Larry is survived by his wife, Joanne; two sons, Lamar (Christy) Yost of Sutherland, NE, Dakota (Maggie) Yost of Sutherland, NE; three daughters, Amber (Dan) Fleecs of Hershey, NE, Scarlett Yost of Sutherland, NE, and Brooke Yost of Sutherland, NE; seven grandchildren; brothers, Dale (Cindy) Yost of Lakin, KS, Arlo (Esther) Yost of Paxton, KS; sisters, Arlene (Bob) Boeckner of Macon, MS, and Carol (Leonard) Koehn of Scotia, NE; brothers-in-law Merle (Judy) Koehn of Marienthal, KS, Stanly (Cindy) Koehn of Cheraw, SC, Dale (Kandee) Koehn of Marienthal, KS; sister-in-law, Holly (Randall) Geisbrecht of Mesa, WA.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and his parents-in-law, Wilbert and Margie Koehn.
Memorial service is at 5 p.m. MT Friday, March 18, at the Paxton Mennonite Church, Paxton, NE.
