May 5, 1948 – August 12, 2022
On May 5, 1948, Dolly and Junior Geyer welcomed a little baby girl, Donna Marie Geyer. She was the oldest of eight children, and her loving family was the cornerstone of her Catholic faith. There were times when they didn’t have much, but they always had each other and their faith in the Lord.
As she grew up, she attended Catholic grade school in Marienthal, Kansas, and high school in Leoti, Kansas. After graduating from high school, she went to Goodland Vo-tech school. After graduation, she worked at the USDA office in Garden City.
On January 10, 1970, she married Don Wright, and they moved to Bird City where they welcomed and raised four children. Donna’s first and favorite role in life was raising her children. She helped support the family farm by keeping books and, of course, taking care of her farming family. She worked part-time at the USDA office in St. Francis, and she also worked part-time for Ayres’s Market. As her kids were getting closer to going off to college, she opened her own insurance office, and she had found her new favorite role, Grandma. There was nothing she loved more than time with her grandchildren. She always looked forward to birthdays, holidays, sports events, and beating them in cards.
Donna had a life-long entrepreneurial spirit. She loved helping her grandchildren set up an ice-cream business, the Wright Stuff, at Bird City’s Tri-State Antique Engine and Thresher Show. She was dedicated to her family’s sunflower oil business, where she was the Chief Button Pusher, the person who hooked the customers. Throughout her life she was dedicated to the Catholic church and her community, and she brought her strong family values to everything she did.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer (Junior) and Elizabeth (Dolly) (Baker) Geyer, and her sister-in-law, Carla Geyer.
She is survived by her husband, Don Wright; four children: Duane and Michelle Wright, and their children, Dagan (and son, Liam), Kaid, Parker (and wife, Bethany), Mason, Emma, Courtney, Lauren, Dawson; Doug and Shawna Wright, and their children, Stark, Michael, and Marie; Dennis and Dana Wright, and their children, Grace, Andrew, and Abigail; and DeAndrea and David Krien, and their children Josey and Harper; seven siblings: Polly (and husband, Merle) Witt, Esther (and husband, Larry) Johnston, Leo and Linda Geyer, Danny Geyer, Myron and Renee Geyer, Bonnie (and husband, Rudy) Holopirek, and Brenda (and husband Doug) Billings, and dozens of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Rosary service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Francis, at 7:30PM Tuesday. Mass will be held Wednesday morning, also at St. Joseph, at 10:30AM.
