New Castle, DE—Allen Rae Brown, 75, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2023.
Allen was born on October 31, 1948, in Great Bend, Kansas. He was adopted along with his sister by their parents, Elvin and Juanita (Reimer) Brown. Allen and his sister grew up in McPherson, Kansas.
Allen attended McPherson High School, where he excelled in football and was a proud member of the McPherson High School Football Team. After high school, he was married and divorced and had three children.
Later in life, Allen was reunited with his birth mother, Marilyn Mae Johnson of Wenatchee, Washington, his half-sister, Nita Dunn of Wenatchee, Washington, and his birth father, Merl Raymond Lloyd of Norman, OK. Allen was of Blackfoot Indian and Welsh heritage. Allen was drafted into the Marines and served in the Vietnam War. After the war, he held many occupations, but the one he was most fond of was in Leavenworth, Kansas, where he worked as a grief and military counselor. He was often accompanied by his cherished dog, Brody. In his later years, Allen always sought opportunities to connect with veterans who served our country and fought for our freedoms.
Allen is predeceased by his son, Mike Godwin of McPherson, Kansas; his parents, Elvin and Juanita Brown; his sister, Teresa Reschke; his half-sister, Nita Dunn; and his birth parents, Marilyn Johnson and Merl Lloyd.
He is survived by his children, Matthew Godwin of McPherson, Kansas; Mike’s wife, Jesse Godwin of McPherson, Kansas; and Rae Sargent of Minnesota. He also leaves behind six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A small graveside burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on August 24, 2024, at Bethany Cemetery near Leoti, Kansas, where he will be laid to rest beside his sister, Teresa Reschke, and his parents, Elvin and Juanita Brown.
