Alma Louise Campas, 94, passed away peacefully on October 19th, 2023, at Wichita County Long Term Care in Leoti, KS. Alma was born on November 2nd, 1928, at St. Catherine’s Hospital in Garden City, Kansas, to Herman and Olga Kuhlman. She lived all of her years in Western Kansas, growing up just south of the Wichita-Kearny County line, spending her younger years in the Lydia area, and her high school years and the rest of her days in Leoti, KS.

She was the wife of Charles Campas, whom she wed on March 22, 1947, and who passed away in 1994. She and Charlie had 3 children, Priscilla, Roxy, and Gary. Together, they continued the farm passed down from her father, and started Charlie’s Mexican Restaurant in April, 1962. Throughout her years, Alma was an active member of the Leoti community, the Wichita County Genealogy Society, and St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Parish, where she taught RCIA.

She spent her days raising her family, helping to run the family farm, running and working at Charlie’s Restaurant, attending the games and activities of her children and grandchildren, staying in touch with relatives near and far, and giving special attention to researching and maintaining family history. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a smart businesswoman.

Alma is preceded in death by her mother and father, Herman J.W. Kuhlman and Olga Kettler Kuhlman; her sisters and only siblings, Verna Foos and Norma Kuhlman; her husband, Charlie Campas; and great-greatgrandson, Andrew Williams. She is also preceded by her sisters-in-law, Magdalena Cordova, Louise Korbe, Inez Blau, and Beverly Campos; and brother-in-law Ray Campos, who remained close family after Charlie’s passing and until their deaths.

She is survived by her children, Roxy (Jan) Campas and Gary (Sheila) Campas, both of Leoti, KS, and Priscilla (Robert) Tell of Montrose, CO; her grandchildren, Traci (Mike) McGuire of Pratt, KS, Shandell (Joe) Schieferecke of McPherson, KS, Nicholas Campas of Lakin, KS, Morgan (Scott) O’Hara of Parker, CO, and Keegan Campas of Denver, CO; great-grandchildren, Ashtyn Schieferecke, Lakyn Schieferecke, Abby Schieferecke, Parker Campas, Sasha O’Hara, Xavier O’Hara, Thaddeus O’Hara, Danielle (Gary) Roberts, Corey (Brittany) McGuire, and Megan (Brady) Hutchinson; greatgreat- grandchildren, Charlotte Hutchinson, Kallen, Krew and Kilyn McGuire, and Taylor and Alexis Williams. Alma is also survived by her sister, Joyce Miller of Golden, CO.

Alma’s family extends sincere thanks and gratitude to the community and extended family members who have shown Alma love and support over the years and to the Wichita County Long Term Care unit for providing her care and comfort in her final years.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 23rd, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua in Leoti, KS with Frs. Bernard Felix and Benjamin Martin presiding. Burial to follow at Leoti Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Price & Sons Funeral Home on Saturday, October 21, from 12:00-8:00, and on Sunday, October 22, from 1:00-5:00. Rosary will take place on Sunday evening at St. Anthony at 7:00 p.m.
