Leoti—Dale Eugene Appl, age 90, passed away on April 29, 2023, at his home in Leoti, Kansas. He was born on May 3, 1932, to Martinus and Violet (Elder) Appl in Leoti, Kansas. He was a farmer and rancher as well as a past member of the Leoti Lions Club and the Antique Car Club. He loved farming as much as he loved flying and showing everyone his farm from the air. Anyone who knew him knew that he was both candid and ornery.

On March 30, 1952, Dale married Dorothea J. Van Winkle in Dodge City. She survives.

Dale is survived by his wife; three daughters, Julie Carpenter of Leoti, Kansas, Trish & Bryan Brunswig of WaKeeney, Kansas, Kathy & Darrin Graff of Neodesha, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Cole & Bridgette Carpenter, Shala & Kevan Steele, Tyler & Cheyann McClayland, Lacey & Alex Detwiler, Cara & Josh Gunderson, Ty & Courtney Brunswig, Tia & Logan Mattheyer, and fifteen great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Katheryn Taylor; one brother, Keith Appl; and one son-in-law, Charlie Carpenter.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Leoti, Kansas with Mike Deschner presiding. Burial will follow at the Leoti Cemetery.

Visitation will be on May 2, 2023, from 12:00 until 8:00 p.m., and March 3, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Price and Sons Funeral home at 4th and J Sts. in Leoti, Kansas.
