It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dennis Eugene Elder, age 71, who left a void in this world on November 11, 2023, at Phoenix, AZ. He was surrounded by good friends who had come to know and love him deeply. He leaves behind his love of friends and family, his wittiness, and unique personality, which made him the life of the party, and especially at family reunions.

Dennis was born into a farming family on September 30, 1952, to Ellsworth “Red” and Thelma (Brack) Elder. He attended schools at Leoti, KS, where he was raised, and graduated from Wichita County High School. He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Leoti, and as a young boy made his profession of faith. He farmed with his father until his father retired, and then continued working the land. However, those who knew him knew fishing was always his first career choice.

In 1982, Dennis moved to Keystone, CO, just for the winter to work at a resort. There he met Susan Moore and she also became a vital part of his farming operation for 29 years.

When Dennis decided to hang up his tractor keys for good and retire, he made his move to reside at Roosevelt, AZ, where he purchased a home on Roosevelt Lake, spending many evenings enjoying the warmth of a campfire with friends. This move made it possible for him to talk out his door and go fishing any time he pleased.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Red and Thelma Elder; and brother-in-law, Jim Gittlein.

He is survived by sister, Deandra Gittlein (Greg Martin), Decatur, AR; niece, Lacy (Pete) Williams, Wichita, KS; nephew, Garrett (Amanda) Gittlein), Bentonville, AR; greatnephews, Cohen Williams, Mason and Colson Gittlein; great-niece, Madison Gittlein; a very special lady in his life, Brenda; many friends and family in Leoti and Roosevelt; last, but not least, his two schnauzers, known as “his boys,” Mojo and Shadow.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date at Roosevelt, AZ, as his wishes were to be cremated.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, or Friends for Life Animal Rescue, in care of Clarinda Wine, 1996 E 38th Ave., Apache Junction, AZ, 85119.
