Ken Maynard Barr, of Denver, Colorado died on the morning of September 26, 2023, at the age of 93. He was born June 4, 1930, in Larned, Kansas to Herbert and Eula Barr.
Ken attended Kansas State University, where he majored in Agriculture, played football, was a member of the Pi Kappa fraternity, and where he met the love of his life, Donna Cronk Barr. They married in 1951 and moved to Leoti, Kansas where he began farming and they started a family.
The family moved to Rocky Ford, Colorado in 1970, where he continued to farm. In 1973 they moved on to Denver where he worked with Ceres International, an international agriculture company. His career took him to Brazil, Japan, Italy, Mexico, South Korea, Indonesia, and Russia. His family moved with him to Volgodonsk, Russia for the summer in 1973.
Two of Ken’s greatest joys were farming and flying his plane. He was always up for new adventures and later in life started Colorado General Realty and a roofing business. He continued working until he was 88.
Ken loved to ski, play tennis and exercise daily. He was a bit of a health-nut before it was in fashion and swore by his daily morning drink of Tang. He loved football and was a huge fan of the Denver Broncos and University of Colorado and Kansas State teams. He was a kind and generous man who never complained and never spoke negatively about anyone. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Donna (2007), and his son, Breck (2014).
He i s survi ved b y h i s daughters: Dea (Paul) Voegeli, Stacey (Mitch) Soboleski; grandchildren: Brandon (Ann) Barr, Kendra (Buck) Jones, Joseph, Isabella, and Catherine Soboleski; great-grandchildren Jason, Gracie, Eli, Noah, Jackson, Abner, and Lola.
A Celebration of Life for Ken will be on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. It will be held at the Westminster Recreation Center, 10455 Sheridan Blvd., Westminster CO in the Community Room.
