SCOTT CITY—L. George Evans, age 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas. He was born on May 18, 1929, in La Junta, Colorado, the son of Henry “Hank” Hobson Evans and Alice Goudy Allen.
On March 17, 1951, he married Wanda Mae Baker in Las Vegas, Nevada. She passed away on August 6, 2013, in Wichita, Kansas.
George and Wanda moved to Leoti, Kansas in 1956, from Crowley, Colorado, and lived there until moving to Sharon Springs, Kansas, in 2002. In 2008, George and Wanda moved to Scott City, Kansas. He was a farmer.
George was a member of the First Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas. He was very involved in the First Baptist Churches in Leoti, Sharon Springs, and Scott City, where he served various ministries as a deacon, choir member, soloist, and usher. One of his passions was seeking to be a blessing to others. George was an inventor, enjoyed flying, and was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his one son, Kyle and Shirley Evans of Scott City, Kansas; two daughters, Peggy & Wade Graber of El Dorado, Kansas; Karen & Lou Crotta of Fredericksburg, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Bertie Evans of Leoti, Kansas; six grandchildren; and nine greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one sister, Dorothy Reeves; and four brothers, Bill Evans, Robert Evans, Oscar Evans, and Junior Allen.
Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2020, at the First Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas with Rev. Kyle Evans & Rev. Wade Graber presiding.
Memorials In Lieu of Flowers may be made to the First Baptist Church % Price & Sons Funeral Home.
