Louis Michael Zellner, Jr., 78, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on April 4, 2026, in Liberal, Kansas. He was born on March 27, 1948, in Marienthal, Kansas, to Louis Michael Zellner, Sr., and Margaret (Baker) Zellner.

Lou was cherished by many for his late-night barbecues for family and friends following car races. No matter the hour— whether midnight or 2 a.m.—he was always ready with a meal, embodying a spirit of care and fellowship. His love for westerns and cooking further underscored his commitment to creating joy and comfort for those around him.

Lou had been a longtime resident of Hugoton, Kansas, and in the past month before his passing, he resided at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Liberal, Kansas. Throughout his life, Louis’s proudest accomplishment was caring for his family.

On August 2, 1980, Lou united in marriage with Patricia D. Murray at the First Church of God in Hugoton, Kansas. Together, they built a life filled with love and shared experiences.

Lou is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Zellner; a son, Louis Michael Zellner III, known affectionately as “Trea,” both of Hugoton, Kansas. He also leaves behind two brothers, Thomas Zellner of Hugoton and Marshall Zellner of Marienthal, Kansas; sister, Margie Casper and husband, Larry, of Hays, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Paula Cowser, Joy Lewis, and Russell; and many nieces and nephews and friends who will continue to cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Patrick and Willie; and sister, Charlotte Ridder; sister-in-law, Teresa Zellner; brothers-in-law, Wayne Murray and Edward Cowser.

Visitation held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Robson Funeral Home in Hugoton, Kansas, located at 314 South Van Buren Street.

A graveside service will follow on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Hugoton Cemetery, Hugoton, Kansas with Pastor Richard Martin.

A memorial has been established for Donors Choice in care of Robson Funeral Home, PO Box 236, Hugoton, Kansas 67951.

Louis Michael Zellner Jr.’s legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to those he held dear will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him. His spirit lives on in the cherished moments he created and the enduring bonds he nurtured.
