Virginia F. Knobbe, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the Parklane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas. She was born on January 19, 1941, in Scott City, Kansas, to Anthony and Hilda Simons Berning. She grew up in Marienthal.
On November 25, 1961, she married Arden H. Knobbe in Marienthal, Kansas. He passed away in 2021. After their wedding, they lived in Houston, Texas, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, before returning to Marienthal.
She was a member of the St. Mary Church in Marienthal. Virginia v o lunteered at the Community Thrift Store and was involved in supporting the Museum of the Great Plains in Leoti, Kansas. She enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines.
Survivors include her two daughters, Leta & Duane Berning of Leoti, Kansas, and Rita Knobbe of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; sisterin- law, Roxanne Berning of Augusta, Kansas; brotherin- law, Edward & Shirley Knobbe of Fallbrook, California; three granddaughters, Ashley Berning of Garden City, Kansas, Laura Ann Janusik of Leoti, Kansas, Chelsea Dooley of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and five great-grandchildren.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings: Eugene, John, Mary Louise, Joann, Robert, and Cork.
Memorials may be made to “St. Catherine Church,” “St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,” or “St. Mary’s Hospice,” in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home, PO Box 161, Leoti, KS 67861.
The funeral mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marienthal, KS, on January 18, 2025, at 10:30, with Fr. Bernard Felix and Fr. Ben Martin presiding. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Marienthal, KS.
