May 25, 1976, by all accounts, was just another late-spring day in Western Kansas. But, for at least one family in Wichita County, it wouldn’t stay that way.That night, the Simons family would lose their husband and father, the trajectory of a normal life, and their sense of carefree safety.

Wichita County Community Foundation (WCCF) awarded $7,000.00 WCHS graduates through four scholarships.Dennis E. Elder Memorial Scholarships, which go to graduates pursuing a degree in medical- or agriculture-related fields, in the amount of $2,500.

Wheatland Electric Earns NRECA’s Chesnutt Award for Power the Pantry

SCOTT CITY–Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WEC) has received the highest recognition available in the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) 2026 Spotlight on Excellence Awards program— the prestigious Edgar F. Chesnutt Award—for its 2025 Power the Pantry campaign.

City Council, County Commission Hold Rare Joint Session about GLCC

City of Leoti Governing Body and County Commissioners met in special session Monday, May 11, 2026 at 9:00 a.m., at the Wichita County Business CARE Center.Mayor Chris Kreutzer and Councilors Derek Meyer, Kelma Burch, Aron White, Rick Griem, and Jim Kreutzer were present.

Pleasant Valley Boosters May Minutes

The regular monthly meeting of the Pleasant Valley Boosters 4-H club was held on May 13th at 6:00pm at the High School. The President, Zane Gerstberger called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Marcy Baker, and the 4-H pledge was led by Cele Baker.
